Population

The St. Cloud Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) population 1/ increased from 116,241 in 1970 to 189,093 in 2010. That was an increase of 62.7 percent.

The foreign-born (FB) population increased from 1,108 in 1970 to 7,112 in 2010. That was an increase of 541.9 percent. The foreign-born share changed from 1.0 percent to 3.8 percent.

The share of the overall population that was native-born (NB) increased by 58.1 percent.

The primary sources of population change are:

The first chart below shows the three population change factors for three periods adjusted for annual average amounts. Natural change (B-D) was the primary factor in adding population in all periods.

The second chart shows the same data but with an adjustment to reflect births to immigrants shifted to NIM. In it, B-D continued to be the primary factor adding population in all periods.
